DIONYSUS VINEYARD
Columbia Valley
The soils at Dionysus are varied, adding complexity to any wines coming from this great site. Dionysus has a secure water source thanks to the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project. The vineyard uses advanced drip irrigation, with sprinklers used for frost control, cooling, and occasional irrigation driven by soil moisture monitoring.

Planted in 1988, Dionysus has some of the oldest vines in Washington State. These old vines benefit from an established root system, regulating vigor and allowing the vines to consistently produce rich, dense and generous grapes. Our rows follow the slope towards the southwest, almost 45 degrees off due north, which allows for nearly perfect sun exposure while minimizing over-ripening. As the sun lowers down in the evenings, both sides of the canopy receive evening sun, giving incredible evenness and consistency.

Dionysus Vineyard was established in 1973 and Block 11 was planted in 1988. The vineyard has 150 acres of grapes and 12 acres of apples. Of the 150 acres of grapes, the Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay blocks are the only vines remaining from the original plantings. Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship varietal of Dionysus after 40+ years.
Dionysus is one of five major vineyards owned by Sagemoor Vineyards and is currently managed by Lacey Lybeck.

Dionysus Vineyard is located along a slope side looking out over the valley at 600-900ft. with grapes growing on slopes from 1-15% across the property. This makes for some spectacular views! The location of the vineyard has allowed vines to grow in a moderate climate with mid-range temperatures and the occasional Washington freeze, and excellent air-drainage.

Blocks 14, 16 and 18 are composed of Royal fine sandy loam soil at a
2-10% slope.

Blocks 11, 12, 13, and 19 (we source our Cabernet Sauvignon from Block 11) are composed of Sagehill very fine sandy loam soil at a 10-15% grade.
